As president and CEO of SPi Healthcare, John O’Donnell brings his 25 years of healthcare industry expertise and leadership from both a hospital and physician practice perspective, giving him a unique understanding of the financial pressures that face the healthcare community. His well-rounded expertise enables him to more effectively lead the company in aligning technology and operations to meet the needs of a healthcare organization.
With his in depth understanding of the financial challenges that face the industry, John is positioning SPi Healthcare in a strategic direction to offer their clients a more comprehensive solution. Under his guidance, SPi Healthcare has experienced over 20% growth.
John’s leadership in SPi Healthcare’s growth strategy and branding will continue to position the company to better meet the evolving needs of healthcare organizations.
John has been with the company since 2004 (for Springfield Service Corporation (SSC) before it became SPi Healthcare). Prior to being appointed President, he joined the company as the Executive Vice President of Operations and was concurrently the Chief Information Officer, where he was instrumental in coordinating operational and IT management staff to bring continuity and cooperation for key services offered to clients.
Previously, he headed the financial applications group for Palos Community Hospital and its immediate care centers. John was also a senior consultant with a healthcare consulting firm in Wheaton, Illinois.
John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, with a concentration in Computer Management from Eastern Illinois University.
David Worachek has served as Chief Financial Officer of SPi Healthcare since 2003, joining the company with Springfield Service Corporation (SSC). He possesses over 15 years of financial management experience with an emphasis in the service industry. He has supported the growth and development of SPi Healthcare through five (5) transactions and is responsible for all aspects of finance and accounting as well as risk management and corporate compliance.
Prior to SPi Healthcare, David was Chief Financial Officer and Co-Founder of Regulus Receivable Management, Inc., and the Director of Accounting/Corporate Controller with Asset Management Outsourcing two consolidators in the receivable management industry.
Previously, David served as Manager of Financial Services for Omnexus, a global eMarketplace for the plastics industry, and held positions with Arthur Andersen LLP.
David is a member of the Financial Executives Institute, the CFO Summit, and holds a Bachelors of Business Administration – Accounting & Marketing, from University of Wisconsin – Madison.
As Senior Vice President of Operations, Karen Pilley is a healthcare industry veteran with a multitude of experience in the areas of operational and financial performance improvements, revenue cycle operations, managed care, healthcare compliance, physician and hospital relationships, and physician group development and management.
Prior to her tenure at SPi Healthcare, she held a variety of leadership roles at US Oncology (acquired by McKesson Corp in late 2010), a $9 billion physician practice management company for cancer doctors. As Vice President of Reimbursement Services, she helped to contribute to US Oncology’s success by being responsible for managing the health of $700 million in accounts receivable and under her leadership, industry standards were exceeded. At this company she also held positions of National Director of Reimbursement Services, Director of Reimbursement Services, Associate Director of Health Information, Associate Director Regional Reimbursement and Regional Reimbursement Manager.
Previously, Karen has also positions at Houston’s FutureCare OB/GYN Infertility Clinic and HCA-West Houston Medical Center.
Karen is a member of the Medical Group Management Association, the Association of Community Cancer Centers, the American Academy of Professional Coders, and the American Health Information Management Association. She holds a nursing degree from the Lewis A. Wilson School of Nursing.
With over 13 years of healthcare industry experience with a focus on accounts receivable management and healthcare IT, Tim (T.J.) Schmitt, Jr. has a proven track record for producing strong sales results with high customer satisfaction.
T.J. joined SPi Healthcare in June of 2011 and spent the previous three years as an Executive Director, Business Development for AHC, Inc., a company that provides healthcare-focused legal expertise, advanced technology, and superior claims management expertise. From 2006-2008, he was a Business Development Executive for Beacon Partners, one of the largest privately held healthcare management consulting firms in the United States.
T.J. also held various operational and sales positions for more than eight years at Ingram & Associates, a company that provides revenue model optimization services for the healthcare industry, including Regional Sales Director, Director of Operations and Account Manager.
In addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee, T.J. is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems and is active in both local and regional industry associations such as HIMSS, HFMA and MGMA.
As Vice President of Health Information Management Solutions for SPi Healthcare, Julia Tynan possesses over 20 years of healthcare industry experience with a strategic focus on revenue cycle and operations performance improvement.
Prior to SPi Healthcare Julia worked at Eastman Kodak as a Contract Revenue Cycle Consultant. Previous to that, for over ten years Julia held various positions in the Healthcare Practice at Deloitte Consulting, the world's largest management consulting firm in Strategy & Operations, Human Capital and Technology Services. Most recently she was Senior Manager, Strategy and Operations for Healthcare with a focus in Revenue Cycle and Operations Excellence. She also held other positions including Chief of Staff for the Clinical Information Systems Practice and Senior Project Manager for Healthcare Recruiting.
Previously, Julia has also held positions at a variety of healthcare industry organizations including at Healthcare Management Group, Integrated Health Services, and Arbor Health Care.
Julia is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and the Medical Group Management Association. She holds a Master of Health Services Administration from Xavier University and a Bachelors of Business Administration from Ohio University.
Sean McDonagh brings over two decades of healthcare industry experience into his role at SPi Healthcare as Executive Director, Client Services.
Prior to SPi Healthcare, Sean served in a variety of leadership roles at Beacon Partners, one of the largest privately held healthcare management consulting firms in the United States. Most recently, he was Client Services Manger, responsible for the overall success of field engagements. He also served as Practice Director for Beacon Partners’ GE/Allscripts practice, responsible for over 30 consultants. Prior to that he served as a senior consultant.
Sean has held positions in Revenue Cycle Leadership within the for profit sector as well as Academic leaders such as Brigham and Women’s, Massachusetts and Boston’s Children’s hospitals.
Sean holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with an additional concentration in finance from Clark University.
Jay Tolchinsky brings 17 years of healthcare industry marketing and communications leadership to SPi Healthcare. Before joining SPi Healthcare, Jay worked at EMC Corporation as Healthcare Field Marketing Manager for the Americas. Prior to that he was Director of Marketing and Communications for Beacon Partners, one of the largest privately held healthcare management consulting firms in the United States. Jay helped to lead a variety of strategic marketing initiatives during his tenure, in which Beacon Partners experienced significant growth.
Previously, Jay worked for IDX Systems Corporation (GE Healthcare), a leading provider of software, services and technology for healthcare provider organizations. During his tenure at IDX he served in various roles including Service Executive, National Operations Manager, and Interoperability Project Executive.
Prior to IDX, Jay worked for Partners Healthcare, an integrated health system and one of the nation's leading biomedical research organizations, where he led the implementation and support of their IDX system.
Jay is a Senior Member of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and has served on the New England HIMSS Board of Directors in various capacities including chapter President and Communications Chair.
