Meet the SPi Healthcare leaders.

John O’Donnell, President and CEO
John O’Donnell

As president and CEO of SPi Healthcare, John O’Donnell brings his 25 years of healthcare industry expertise and leadership from both a hospital and physician practice perspective, giving him a unique understanding of the financial pressures that face the healthcare community. His well-rounded expertise enables him to more effectively lead the company in aligning technology and operations to meet the needs of a healthcare organization.

With his in depth understanding of the financial challenges that face the industry, John is positioning SPi Healthcare in a strategic direction to offer their clients a more comprehensive solution.  Under his guidance, SPi Healthcare has experienced over 20% growth.

John’s leadership in SPi Healthcare’s growth strategy and branding will continue to position the company to better meet the evolving needs of healthcare organizations.

John has been with the Company since 2004 (for SSC before it became SPi Healthcare). Prior to being appointed president, he joined the Company as the executive vice president of operations and was concurrently the chief information officer, where he was instrumental in coordinating operational and IT management staff to bring continuity and cooperation for key services offered to clients.

Previously, he headed the financial applications group for Palos Community Hospital and its immediate care centers.  John was also a senior consultant with a healthcare consulting firm in Wheaton, Illinois.

John holds a bachelor of science in business, with a concentration in computer management from Eastern Illinois University. 

 

Ken Christensen, Senior Vice President, Operations
Ken Christensen

As senior vice president of operations, Ken Christensen brings over 18 years of experience in strategic planning, client relations, business development, project management, and process engineering strategies.  His proven ability to successfully analyze an organization’s critical business requirements, identify deficiencies and potential opportunities, and develop innovative solutions enables Ken to effectively lead the company’s operations.

Ken has a long history with SPi Healthcare.  He worked for the company when it was Springfield Service Corporation from 2003 to 2010 as a senior client executive and then as the executive director of client services.  Ken returned to the company in 2012 in his current position — senior vice president of operations.

Prior to his work at SPi Healthcare, Ken served in many leadership and consulting roles including senior health consultant for Professional Business Consultants in Oak Brook, Illinois, senior practice manager at Rush-Copley Service Corporation in Aurora, Illinois, and manager of physician services at Loyola University Health System in Maywood, Illinois.

Ken holds of bachelor of science degree in operations management from DePaul University, Chicago and is an active member of the Medical Group Management Association.

Brian Mitchell, Senior Vice President, Sales
Brian Mitchell

Brian Mitchell began his role as senior vice president of sales for SPi Healthcare in 2012.   In this role, Brian is responsible for all sales initiatives to support the growth and development of the company. 

Prior to SPi Healthcare, Brian was a top leader for IDX/GE Healthcare for seventeen years where he served in various roles including general manager and vice president of hospitals and large practices and technology, as well as director of technology sales for the Americas. During his tenure at IDX/GE Healthcare, Brian achieved many accomplishments: top-ranked sales manager for three years, top 15% of sales managers multiple years, and creator of the GE Healthcare Technology Conference. 

Before his long and successful career at IDX/GE Healthcare, Brian was a sales executive for Digital Equipment Corporation and the vice president of marketing and customer support at BKW Systems, Inc.

Brian’s impressive career of exceeding expectations, building strong relationships, coaching, and selling and negotiation has won him prestigious recognition such as the national GREAT Award and the GE 2010 President’s Winner Circle Award.

Brian has a bachelor of arts degree with a double major in business administration and economics from Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont.  Brian also earned his MBA in healthcare management from Colorado Technical University in Denver, Colorado

Julia Tynan, Vice President, Project Management and Professional Services
Julia Tynan

As vice president of project management and professional services for SPi Healthcare, Julia Tynan possesses over 20 years of healthcare industry experience with a strategic focus on revenue cycle and operations performance improvement. 

Prior to SPi Healthcare, Julia worked at Eastman Kodak as a contract revenue cycle consultant.  Previous to that, for over ten years, Julia held various positions in the healthcare practice at Deloitte Consulting, the world's largest management consulting firm in strategy and operations, human capital, and technology services.  Most recently, she was a senior manager of strategy and operations for healthcare with a focus in revenue cycle and operations excellence.  She also held other positions including chief of staff for the clinical information systems practice and senior project manager for healthcare recruiting.

Previously, Julia has also held positions at a variety of healthcare industry organizations including Healthcare Management Group, Integrated Health Services, and Arbor Health Care.

Julia is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Medical Group Management Association.  She holds a master of health services administration from Xavier University and a bachelor of business administration from Ohio University.

Sean McDonagh, Vice President Client Services
Sean McDonagh

Sean McDonagh brings over two decades of healthcare industry experience into his role at SPi Healthcare as vice president of client services.

Prior to SPi Healthcare, Sean served in a variety of leadership roles at Beacon Partners, one of the largest privately held healthcare management consulting firms in the United States. Most recently, he was a client services manager, responsible for the overall success of field engagements. He also served as a practice director for Beacon Partners’ GE/Allscripts practice, responsible for over 30 consultants. Prior to that, he served as a senior consultant.

Sean has held positions in revenue cycle leadership within the for-profit sector as well as academic leaders such as Brigham and Women’s, Massachusetts, and Boston’s Children’s hospitals.

Sean holds a bachelor of arts in English with an additional concentration in finance from Clark University.

Jeff Grybas, Vice President Information Technology
Jeff Grybas

As vice president of information technology, Jeff brings 20 years of healthcare industry experience to SPi Healthcare — both in information technology and accounting.

Prior to joining SPi Healthcare, Jeff worked at Midwest Physician Group in various leadership positions including director of information services, chief security officer, controller, and director of accounting.

Jeff is an active member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).  He holds a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Lewis University.

Alan Quirk, CPA, Vice President, Finance
Alan Quirk, CPA

Alan Quirk has been with SPi Healthcare since 2004 – joining the company with Springfield Service Corporation.  He possesses nearly 20 years of accounting experience — nearly all of it in the healthcare industry.  Prior to being promoted to the vice president of finance in 2012, Alan supported the growth and development of the company in his positions as director of finance and then senior director of finance. 

Alan’s experience prior to SPi Healthcare includes leadership roles such as the director of financial services for Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in Chicago, Illinois (where he was a President’s Award winner) and senior accountant for Medicus Systems Corporation in Evanston, Illinois.

Alan is a member of the Healthcare Finance Management Association, Financial Executives International, and the Medical Group Management Association.  He has been a certified public accountant since 1998 and also earned his bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.
